Following the first two movies, Divergent and Insurgent, the third installment has been split into two separate movies.
The films will now be named The Divergent Series: Allegiant and The Divergent Series: Ascendent. Both movies will still be based on Allegiant, the final novel in the Divergent trilogy, written by Veronica Roth.
The trailer begins with recaps of the previous two movies saying “in 2014 the world was divided”, showing the process of dividing people into factions and Tris’ (Shailene Woodley) transition from abnegation to Dauntless and her discovery of being Divergent. Then it forwards to 2015 where “the world was shattered” where they fought back and Tris discovered she was “the key” to saving their city. Now in 2016, the world beyond the wall of post-apocalyptic Chicago will be revealed and Tris yet again, discovered she may be the key to saving the world beyond the wall.
